Latin's exceptional VCE scaling makes it one of the most rewarding subjects to pursue. Yet for many students, the unseen translation is where marks are lost. Knowing your grammar is one thing; applying it fluently under timed exam conditions is another. Many VCE Latin students find themselves in the same position: “I've learnt the grammar, but I don’t know what to do when I see an unseen passage in an exam.” “My translations feel disorganised. I know I'm dropping marks where I shouldn't.” “I want to use the holidays productively but don't know how to structure my revision.” Rather than spending the break on unfocused self-study, this intensive gives students a clear, structured path to exam readiness, built around the skills that matter most in the exam: grammar revision, translation technique, and timed unseen practice. Course Objective To consolidate students' knowledge of the grammar constructions examined in the VCE unseen (Part 1 of the Exam) and build both the translation fluency and exam confidence needed to perform under timed conditions. Course Highlights Targeted Revision of High-Frequency VCE Grammar Rather than covering everything, the course focuses on the constructions most commonly tested in VCE Unseens, e.g., the subjunctive mood, ut, cum, si, ne, Quod clauses. Each grammar revision is paired directly with unseen passages that put those constructions to use. Two Timed Unseens Per Day Each day follows a proven sequence: an accessible unseen set the night before as preparation, followed by an in-class review of the translation and grammar discussion, then a harder timed passage at VCAA difficulty. Two timed passages per day build the stamina and instinct students need for the real exam. By the end of the week, students would’ve completed 10 timed unseens.
