Introductory Latin Workshop

A 5-Day Academic Readiness Program for Middle School Students

880 Australian dollars

Description

When it comes to choosing what language to study in high school, Latin is a popular option for its high scaling benefit in VCE. Yet, choosing Latin often brings a unique set of hesitations: “I heard Latin is incredibly difficult. Can my child handle it?” “Is it really worth spending time on a 'dead language'?” “What if they start, realize they don't like it, and want to drop out halfway?” Instead of guessing from the sidelines or risking a high-stakes semester choice, why not let your child try it out in a real, immersive environment? This winter holidays, we are thrilled to invite Jason, currently studying at Brown University (US), to lead a 5-Day Latin Holiday Intensive. which would help students determine whether Latin is the right fit for their future school years. Course Objective Our core objective is simple: to allow complete beginners to personally experience Latin and confidently judge whether they are passionate about pursuing Latin further. Course Highlights A Distinct Approach to Language Learning Unlike modern languages that prioritise conversational listening and speaking, learning an ancient language emphasises rigorous grammatical analysis and translation. Jason will teach students the basics of the grammar-translation method, building a solid foundation for high school. Read an Latin Passage after 5 Days Through this program, students will progress from absolute zero on Monday to independently reading and translating a short Latin story by Friday. This immediate sense of tangible accomplishment is critical for building academic confidence. Demystifying the High School Curriculum This course provides a clear overview of the high school Latin syllabus. By knowing the curriculum, students can understand future learning objectives, allowing them to make an informed decision about their academic pathway. Meet Your Instructor: Jason Jason graduated from Scotch College, achieving an outstanding raw score of 43 in VCE Latin (ranking in the Top 10 across Victoria). He brings over 5 years of rich 1-on-1 teaching experience across Latin, Chinese and German. In 2025, he successfully led the AMC Math Olympiad Holiday Camp at QE. Currently, Jason is pursuing his degree at Brown University (Ivy League, US), majoring in Classics. "I hope that this course affords students the opportunity not only to experience a new way of learning a language, and to determine their suitability in pursuing it, but also to appreciate an ancient language."
